BEHIND THE 18TH GREEN AT THE HERO WORLD CHALLENGE
Dylan Dethier: Last fall was pretty good to you: Rookie of the Year honors on the PGA Tour, and you became a father for the second time. How are you feeling?
Cameron Young: Very fortunate. I think a lot of my focus the last little while has been on my family, and that’s been nice after the grind of the season. I mostly keep family stuff to myself, but it’s definitely exciting. I’m just trying to adjust to having two—and trying to help my wife get through every day.
DD: Do you have a sense of how parenting two kids will be different from one?
CY: Well, ours were born really close, so the older one’s still a baby too. But we have two boys, and I think it’ll be great for the both of them to be so close together.
DD: Have you had time to reflect on last season’s success?
CY: Not really. The main thing was trying to take advantage of the opportunities I’d given myself. Now, I’ve put myself in a position to know I’ll play all the majors and to be able to set my schedule ahead of time, which should mean good things for this year.
DD: How would you grade last year? Seven top threes, five runner-up finishes, Rookie of the Year—really, everything except a win.
CY: I don’t know. I feel like it was pretty good—and so close to awesome. If you turn three of those seconds into wins, it’s awesome. But I didn’t win, so I can’t say it was a total success. As far as taking advantage of the opportunities and setting myself up nicely for this year, though, I can’t complain.
