With the turn of the year comes new hopes on both a lifeline front and to a lesser degree on our betting output. With the world in turmoil it often pays to try and enjoy the little things in life and a Cheltenham winner never goes amiss to bring a smile to our faces especially if we manage to identify it two-and-a-half months in advance! So for this edition I am going to put out to tender a few half way house ante-post recommendations that could look a whole lot better come those four magnificent days in March. Some of these maye have already run by the time this column reaches you.
1- BROADWAY BOY- Brown Advisory Chase
There are any number of 'sexier' players at the head of the market in the novice stayers championship race but there are question marks about several of them. Willie Mullins has put it out to tender that three miles is not Gaelic Warrior's trip such is the speed he shows in his races (Turner or even the Arkle could now be his domain) and I am not sure that Three Card Brag or Sandor Clegane are good enough, at this stage, while Stay Away Fay looks to be ground reliant in order to have a slug fest at this distance and also needs to improve the efficiency of his fencing.
