Empowering Children with Cerebral Palsy Through Football

In a society where children with cerebral palsy often face ostracization and neglect, Girija Madhu stands as a beacon of hope and compassion. Her unwavering dedication to these children has not only transformed their lives but also garnered attention for their extraordinary achievements at the Khelo India Para Games 2023 in Delhi.

Cerebral palsy, a challenging neurological disorder affecting body movement and coordination, is a hurdle that many children in India confront from an early age. The statistics may lack precision, but the impact is immense, affecting countless families across the nation. Girija, driven by her passion for football and her desire to make a difference, embarked on a mission that has changed the narrative for these special kids.

The inaugural Khelo India Para Games 2023 underway in Delhi has not only exposed more than 1400 athletes with special abilities but brought to light people who work tirelessly behind the scenes and far away from the media spotlight to bring a smile to young boys and girls who suffer from cerebral palsy. Girija Kumari Madhu, a unique person in the Cerebral Palsy Sports Federation of India (CPSFI) ecosystem, is one of them.

Transforming power

Three years ago, Girija's encounter with Cerebral Palsy football sparked a profound realisation. Her background in football fuelled her belief in its transformative power. She envisioned a path where these children, often confined and

marginalized, could find solace, joy, and a sense of belonging through the beautiful game. “Football is a wonderful tool to transform a person,” she remarked, reflecting on her own experiences with the sport.
