HE’S a decade older and further south than he’s ever been, but Patrick Brough is loving every minute of life back in League One with newly promoted Northampton Town.
The 27-year-old left-back made three third tier appearances for home-town club Carlisle in the 2013-14 season, one in which the Cumbrians suffered relegation.
His travels later took him to Lincoln, Salford (both loans), Morecambe, Falkirk and Barrow. He notched up appearances in National League North, the National League, League Two and the Scottish Championship along the way, but is now, finally, back in English football’s third tier.
“It was exactly what you want as a young player, though it wasn’t great to be relegated.”
Some could have questioned if they would ever get back to that level as the years went by, but Brough insisted he never looked at it like that.
