Nanotechnology: A Boon to the Food Packaging Industry

The last decade has observed an exponential growth in packaging and food sector in both developed and developing countries. Food is an edible substance which we usually get from animal or plant and contains necessary nutrients including proteins, carbohydrates, minerals, fats, and vitamins to assist life, energy, and growth.

Food is a perishable commodity and hence contamination and degradation of food can occur at any stage of the food chain. It can be chemical, physical or biological. The presence of infectious organisms in food can result in food poisoning, which can be fatal, particularly for children, pregnant women, and elderly persons. Hence, it is highly crucial that the food must be protected at all levels by using good quality of packaging material, which is safe, cost-effective and non-toxic.

Nanotechnology: A Boon to the Food Packaging Industry

The concept of nanotechnology was first introduced by Richard Feynman in 1959, and the term was later coined by Norio Taniguchi in 1974. Nanotechnology comprises of fabrication, characterization, and manipulation of molecules of nanorange (1-100 nm).

Smart Product Inspection Technology Solutions for Reducing Material and Energy Costs

If we know (and we do) that a savvy move involves integrating the right product inspection systems into your production line, paving the way for substantial savings in raw materials by curbing product giveaway and minimising false rejects, let's look at an example. Step forward a flour manufacturer embracing an advanced checkweigher equipped with FlashCell™ EMFR (Electro-Magnetic Force Restoration) technology. With sophisticated algorithms, the smart checkweigher identifies excessive flour dispensing and triggers automatic corrective action. Transmitting this intel directly to filling stations makes for precise fill levels, thanks to tight tolerances and high precision load cells, leading to material savings and heightened production efficiency.

The Rise of Natural Food Colors: A Comprehensive Exploration

Natural food colors are pigments derived from natural sources such as fruits, vegetables, plants, and minerals. They are widely used in the food and beverages industry by manufacturers to add color to food items or drinks. These natural food colors are available in liquid and powdered forms in the market. Food quality is evaluated on the basis of the color of the food. Food color does not always mean that the ingredients are organic, however, in a few cases, it refers to a lesser amount of ingredients used in it. The less ingredients added, the more natural the food product is. Thus, consumers demand natural and organic ingredients in food colors for a better lifestyle and to minimize the risk of diseases that are caused due to artificial food colors. Natural food colors are generally considered to be safer and healthier than synthetic food colors, which are made from chemicals. They are also more appealing to consumers who are looking for natural and clean-label products, thus creating a huge natural food colors market demand and food manufacturers are intensively capitalizing on new products development and technological advancements to cater to the demand.
