On stage, comic Justine Smith has made a name for herself thanks quick wit and impressive use of a few of the more colourful words in the dictionary. But behind the biting remarks and punchy one-liners, the standup comic is a big kid at heart.
Never is that more evident than when she starts talking about her love of all things Disney. While people often get a bad rap for being "Disney adults", it's a label Justine and her husband Dan Crozier, 46, wholeheartedly embrace.
It all started in 2015, after two years together, when Dan and Justine set off on a trip around the US. Justine had begun dropping some not-so-subtle hints that she wanted Dan to propose.
He planned to pop the question at the end of their holiday in New York, a city they both love. But as the trip neared, Dan's nerves got the better of him and he realised he wouldn't be able to hold on to such a big secret for so long.
"He was so nervous and he thought, 'This is going to destroy the trip," recalls Justine with a smile. "So the first night we were at Disneyland, we were so jet-lagged, but he was like, 'I just have to do it.'
"We were on the teacups under the lanterns and it was so beautiful. Then he pulled out a ring that was his great-grandmother’s and asked me to marry him. Even though I’d had a feeling it might be coming on the trip, I was so surprised that I didn’t say anything. He eventually had to say, ‘You have to say something.’ And I said ‘Yes!’ It set up the rest of the trip to be super-gorgeous and romantic.”
