It is, without a doubt, the toughest time the Prince and Princess of Wales have had to face together. Kate is battling cancer, and William is juggling looking after her and their children with his busy workload, plus the extra duties he has taken on because of his father’s illness.

It might seem as though there’s not a lot to celebrate at the moment. But the couple’s recent 13th wedding anniversary was a chance for them to reflect on their vows of “in sickness and in health” and be thankful for the fact that in these dark days, they have each other to lean on.

The pair’s relationship and “unshakeable bond” has become stronger than ever since Kate fell ill, says royal author Robert Jobson.

“Their anniversary now is a testament not only to their love, but to their unity.”

In addition to weathering the storm of Kate’s and King Charles’ cancer diagnoses and subsequent treatment – Kate, 42, is undergoing preventative chemotherapy for an undisclosed form of the disease – in recent months the couple has also had to cope with a slew of conspiracy theories about Kate’s health and disappearance from public view, the scandal surrounding the photoshopped Mother’s Day photo, and speculation about the state of their marriage. Wild rumours have circulated online about William, 41, being unfaithful.

While dealing with all of this, they’ve been trying to maintain as normal a life as possible for Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six.
