She's known for playing a vain character who once had a monumental meltdown when a newspaper published her age.
While Patsy Stone may have lost the plot over the media letting slip that she was 47 in an episode of Absolutely Fabulous, in real life Dame Joanna Lumley doesn't care one bit about age or how it affects the fickle entertainment industry she's part of.
The 77-year-old actor is philosophical about there being fewer parts for women of her generation and says there's no point chasing roles meant for much younger colleagues. And trying to turn back the clock with "tweakments" is a waste of time, she believes.
"The truth is, it doesn't matter what you do to yourself because you are old.
So there's no point in trying, trying, trying. Do what you can and be grateful for it."
Joanna says the older she gets, the happier she is. "I'm 77 and I love it. I think you are less worried about things, less frantically thinking, Will this work? Will they be cross? Will I mess up?""
And she likes the fact she's treated differently now she's a grandmother of two.
