Decide on your priorities for 2023 perhaps saving for a holiday, home maintenance or even a dry January, with no junk food, cigarettes or alcohol after Christmas.

Here are a few good housekeeping money tips.

Pay bills on the nail. Think "pay fast and buy slow". If you pay your debts promptly, you know where you stand.

Take your time over purchases to resist impulse buying. Always write a list before you go shopping and online, too.

Perhaps read a personal finance book so figures and balance sheets hold no terrors for you - your local library should stock a few.

Check your budget: with the cost-of-living crisis, it is easy to fall into the red.
