Why include scenes, presented as facts, that will just bring pain, writes royal biographer Emily Andrews
Fresh HEARTBREAK

The death of Princess Diana is still, 26 years later, one of the most seismic and watershed moments both for the Royal Family and the British psyche.

Those of us who are old enough still remember where we were, and what we were doing, on that Sunday morning in August when news started to emerge from Paris that the then Princess of Wales had been involved in a terrible car accident.

The events of that weekend and subsequent weeks, including her funeral when 15-year-old Prince William and 12-year-old Prince Harry trailed behind her coffin through the streets of London, have been covered in exhaustive newsprint, books and films.

But perhaps the most traumatic was released last week.

The final season of The Crown has arrived and it starts with poignant moments from Diana's final days - her holiday in the south of France with Dodi Fayed.

This is guaranteed to bring more pain and heartbreak to William and Harry - and even Kate as the 'new' Princess of Wales.

The Crown recreates that final phone call Diana had with William and Harry, while they were holidaying at Balmoral with then Prince Charles, before it cuts to her stepping into the black Mercedes that would end in her death.
