As the cost of living continues to soar, it can feel like you need a second mortgage just to pop to the supermarket. Like most people, I've watched my food bill increase as the price of everyday items like bread, milk, meat and eggs has risen to eye-watering levels (and let's not talk about the cost of butter!).
At the same time, my partner Uli, a self-employed kitchen and bathroom fitter, has seen the demand for his work drop due to everyone feeling the pinch. And just to shake things up a bit more, I was recently made redundant from my job with a news website. I've since joined the precarious world of freelancing, and while I'm very grateful that we have enough to live on, I've tried to find ways to save on the weekly food shop.
