The Gogglebox favourites on 10 years of the hit show…
There was a time when the idea of watching people watching television would have been laughed at, but it’s a concept that has formed the basis of one of C4’s most successful shows, which celebrates 10 years since it first aired on 7 March 2013.
To mark the occasion, the channel is airing a 90-minute special featuring some of its most memorable moments
As well as giving viewers a chance to revisit some of the TV that we’ve watched in the last decade, it features incisive comments from Gogglebox’s armchair critics, from old favourites such as Kent hoteliers Steph and Dom and Liverpool pensioners Leon and June to present-day pundits, including Blackpool siblings Pete and Sophie, and the Siddiquis from Derby, who’ve been on the show from the beginning…
‘Our initial thoughts were that it was an interesting idea, but it would probably die a death,’ says dad Sid, who appears on the show with his sons Umar, Baasit and Raza. ‘We did the first four episodes and almost forgot about it, but then we did the second series and it really took off from there.’
‘There’s nothing more natural than sitting watching TV with your family,’ adds Umar. ‘For people who aren’t performers or actors, it was like we’d found a niche for our humour and people seem to like us for that!’
