Stoic silence has been the name of the game for the royals for the better part of a century, but in the case of motormouth Prince Harry versus his estranged family, it seems The Firm has been pushed too far – not least his once-beloved sister-in-law Catherine, the Princess of Wales.
Since she began dating Prince William in 2001, Kate has never commented on personal matters, following in the well-trodden footsteps of the Queen. Even at last week’s BAFTA awards, the 41-year-old mum-of-three was the picture of dignity as she stepped out on her husband’s arm.
But underneath her polished façade, the princess is said to be boiling – and ready to publicly fight back.
“Kate had such a stellar reputation before Harry went on the war path and she’s worried he’s damaged it permanently,” says a palace source. “It is absolutely not OK, especially as she’s spent half her life trying to prove her worth and win the hearts of the class-obsessed British public.
“According to Kate, most of what Harry said about her is either exaggerated or patently untrue, but he said it anyway because he knows there’s little chance she’ll ever respond. However, she could be about to prove him wrong.”
Never before has Kate been subjected to such widespread attacks from royal commentators and online trolls since Harry, 38, went on the offensive in his book Spare, publicity interviews and his Netflix docuseries.
