MINI LILY POND
Create a dainty patio feature by growing water lilies in a mini pond.
Position the pond in semi-shade, with at least six hours of sun a day. Avoid windy spots, which cause water evaporation, and top up the level as needed.
Use a watertight container, like a half-barrel or old sink, at least 45cm deep.
Fill it with around 10-12cm of aquatic compost and plant a dwarf water lily, like pink 'Aurora' or pale yellow 'Pygmaea Helvola'.
Cover the soil with gravel and large pebbles, then gently fill the pond with water, taking care not to disturb the soil.
