Boost shine with a rice water rinse

Amino acids in rice water seal hair’s cuticle, which allows light to bounce onto hair to increase shine. Plus, the rice water’s vitamin E deeply hydrates hair so it maintains a youthful luster.

■ TRY IT! In a bowl, combine 1⁄2 cup of uncooked rice and 2 cups of water; let rice water sit for 30 minutes. Next, strain the water into a jar and use on hair while showering.

Repair dry, brittle hair with a coconut milk rinse

The combination of coconut milk’s lauric acid (it restores moisture to parched hair) and antioxidants (they mend damage and strengthen strands to thwart breakage) work together to reverse brittleness fast. And warming up the pantry staple before pouring it onto hair allows the milk’s nutrients to better penetrate the hair shaft and absorb into strands for long-lasting results.

■ TRY IT! Warm 1⁄2 cup of coconut milk in the microwave before applying to hair while showering.
