It was late September, five years ago that we unveiled ForbesLife Indonesia’s first issue at the Regent Bali Hotel (Now Fairmont Sanur Beach Bali Hotel). Witnessed by the selected number of VIPs and members of the Lamborghini Club Indonesia, as the launch event was tied up with the club’s driving event in Bali. With Millie Stephanie our president director, Justin Doebele our chief editorial advisor at that time, and I unveiled the first cover, featuring Irwan D Mussry, one of the most prominent businessmen in the luxury lifestyle landscape. Fast forward it has been such an amazing journey since the start of the magazine, to be a witness of how the luxury lifestyle scene in Indonesia has grown and evolved in the last five years. 

Welcome to the third edition of ForbesLife Indonesia in 2019. This issue pays tribute to fine watchmaking, a breathtaking world of endless innovation and artisan craftsmanship. On the cover we feature Jean-Claude Biver, a legend in the watchmaking industry. His leadership has created success and rejuvenated not just one, but many Swiss luxury watch brands, from Blancpain, Omega, TAG Heuer, Zenith to Hublot. Jean-Claude shares with us the fascinating future of Hublot and the industry going forward. Aside of the profile, we also feature an array of watches from Baselworld and beyond. In this issue, we also have the privilege to sample two of the most extravagant SUVs available on the market right now, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and the Lamborghini Urus. Welcome to the first issue of ForbesLife Indonesia in 2019, the year of the Earth Pig and a year that is going to be full of joy. This year we will continue to present you with another four issues full of contents that inline with our mis- sion to share with you how to enjoy the good life. This year is also special be- cause we will celebrate our 5th anniversary in October. While for this issue, we present you the latest on what is happening on the art collecting world in Asia, we compiled what the collectors buys and sells this past year. We also talked with Aaron Taylor Kuffner, a New York based artist that has transformed the Gamelan into an interesting contemporary art installation. Dubbed as the Gamelatron, his artwork is the world’s first fully robotic gamelan orchestra. Some rare paintings also emerged in auctions, one of it is a rare landscape painting from Raden Saleh that was sold for a very high price in an auction
in Hong Kong. On the cover is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson that has shares how his social media has amplified his career as the highest-paid actor. From the motoring world we are lucky to be selected as the only media to sample the new Porsche Macan in Spain last November, the car is one of the most im- portant cars for the brand as it has sold for more than approximately 350,000 units around the world since it launched in 2014. We also fortunate enough to be one of the medias to sample the Ferrari 812 Superfast, a top of the line car from Ferrari and one of the few cars that still equipped with the last great V12. For the third quarter issue we are back with our luxury travel issue, which pays tribute to the best that travel can offer. Close to home, we feature several destinations that can be considered. We sampled one of the best beachfront accommodations in Bali, the Strand Villa at the St. Regis Bali. Further away, on Moyo Island, West Nusa Tenggara, we experienced the Amanwana, the most secluded Aman in Indonesia. In this issue we also feature the Forbes Travel Guide 2018 list for Bali where there are several new resorts added. For the motoring enthusiast who wants something unique, we have a feature on our participation in the BMW Driving Experience Bromo where we did a test drive of the new BMW X3. The driving experience is one of the best in a luxurious SUV from BMW, in Bromo with its breathtaking sea of sand. One of our writers also experienced the charms, both old and new, of Hong Kong while sampling one of the newest luxury hotels in the city, The Murray. In this issue we also welcome our new columnist, Fitri Tresnawida from dReamscape who will regularly share with you the most extravagant destinations out there. In this issue she gives shares tips on how to experience the best animal safaris in Africa. Our next issue will focus on art where we welcome you to the extravagant world of creativity.

For this second issue of the year, we pay tribute to the world of horology, one of the essential pursuits of men. Horology is a fast-evolving world with new pieces and innovations coming every year. We handpicked some notable pieces that have launched this year. From this year’s Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie Genève (SIHH), we picked a magnificent piece, the Lange Triple Split, a watch that can have three different timings. For car and watch enthusiasts, there are many auto-inspired watches—we picked the Roger Dubuis collaboration with Lamborghini, Tag Heuer’s recent partnership with Aston Martin, and Richard Mille’s first co-designed watch with McLaren. We also met with Georges Kern, the new chief executive of Breitling, during the brand’s roadshow in Singapore.

Welcome to the first edition in 2018, the year of the Earth Dog. This issue features the luxury car guide 2018, for those with passion for the finest automobiles out there. On the cover is DJ Khaled, a U.S. hip hop superstar who shares love for the most luxurious wheels available: Rolls-Royce. To guide you on cars coming this year, two extravagant drives are presented, first the new Rolls-Royce Phantom, the eighth generation of the brand’s flagship model. It has now been superbly upgraded in features, and dubbed as the quietest car in the world. Next up is the new Porsche Cayenne. This midsize SUV is one of the best-selling models for Porsche, and for all the right reasons, this SUV is vastly improved in handling and performance.

People say time is money, and for fine watchmaking it does cost you dearly to obtain a great watch. One needs to climb up the ladder of success to be able to afford luxury timepieces. Much like fancy cars, a luxury watch is an important status symbol. To that end, we dedicated this issue to the world of horology by presenting you features that give you a glimpse of the extravagance.

Welcome to the latest edition of ForbesLife Indonesia. This one pays tribute to one of the biggest passions of men-automobiles. The world’s top cars are desired because they have superlative attributes in terms of performance and design. It is no wonder one can find posters of these supercars hanging on the walls of children who dream of owning one. On the cover is Hanan Supangkat, the president of the Ferrari Owners Club Indonesia (FOCI), who dreamed of owning a red Ferrari from childhood. Now he’s made his dream come true, as the owner of not one but two Ferraris, and also running the FOCI. Hanan also recently succeeded in organizing the biggest Ferrari event yet in Indonesia, to coincide with celebrations for Ferrari’s 70th anniversary. For more on the Ferrari theme, we prepared various features from the latest Ferrari watch from Hublot, to a rare interview with Enrico Galliera, Ferrari’s chief marketing officer during his short visit to Jakarta. Continuing the automotive theme, we also feature three luxury car test drives, with the review of the Ferrari 488 GTB, the newly launched Lamborghini Aventador S, and the new AMG cars coming from Mercedes-Benz. 
You may also enjoy a glimpse into ArtJog, a contemporary art exhibition in Yogyakarta that just celebrated its 10th anniversary this year, and which has become one of the most established art exhibitions in Indonesia. As one gets more successful, time becomes a valuable commodity. So holiday time is precious, which one should spend in the best possible way. This issue aims to help you by giving insights on how to travel, where to stay, and where to go for that luxurious getaway trip that success has earned you. For one who wants to have a quick getaway in Bali, we feature the list for Bali by the Forbes Travel Guide, where the mystery inspectors rated a dozens of hotels and resorts in Bali, and chose only the very best that made the grade. For international travel, we compiled three destinations that are extravagant and enjoyable, Croatia, Cuba and Iceland.
On the cover is Christian Rijanto of the Ismaya group, who shares how he successfully managed the biggest music festival in the region and how he plans to expand it further, as one of the bold new directions for his group. Christian is also a perfect example of an elite traveler, a successful businessman able to craft his own getaways to exotic places such as Easter Island where he found some mystical statues.
Travelling solo and with family are a complete different experiences, that’s why we featured a new luxury travel startup, Afini. It offers luxurious private residences complete with their own hospitality staff to make sure any stay is luxurious and memorable. Afini was founded by discerning travelers such as Anthony Akili of Smailing Tour, entrepreneur Raymond Pribadi, U.S. based venture capitalist Tisno Onggara and seasoned hotelier John Blanco. All of them are prime examples of elite travelers and we gathered them for a photo shoot, and to share their insights on luxury travel. Please enjoy this escape to a world of extravagance.

On the cover is Sean Gelael, the next big thing in motorsports for Indonesia, and most likely will become the second Indonesian driver ever make it to Formula One (F1). Just 19 years old, Sean currently is competing in the GP2 Series, considered the series to be only one notch below F1. Motorsports isa glamorous and big-ticket sport, especially F1 with its multi million-dollar budgets, as well as being the pinnacle of automotive performance technology.

Speaking of cars, also reviewed is the latest iteration of the Porsche Boxster, the 718 Boxster S. We wanted to see whether the car can live up to its heritage as a fun and spirited roadster (spoiler alert: a definite yes). Work hard and play hard: To celebrate your hard-earned success in this second anniversary issue, we compiled some of the extravagant ways to travel. Starting from something near to Jakarta, travelling by jet ski to the beautiful Thousand Islands is a new way to have a short—yet thrilling—escape. Passion is what drives one to a level higher than the ordinary; this issue pays tribute to personalities with exceptional passion. For our cover we feature Joe Taslim, the most successful Indonesian actor in history, who has combined his passion for martial arts and the world of entertainment. He is a rare talent who is making his mark in Hollywood. We will see him in a major role in a second Hollywood movie later this month where he will appear in Star Trek Beyond.

On the cover, we feature Aarti Lohia, an avid art lover that not only collects many renowned artworks from South and Southeast Asia artists, but also has a mission to help develop upcoming artists in the region. We met her in her majestic house in Singapore where she shared her views and insights about her passion, collection, and philanthropic activities. In this issue, we also featured renowned Indonesian artist Eddie Hara, who has lived in Basel, Switzerland, for some time and gained insight on how the experience has changed his recent artworks.

In this issue we pay tribute to art—highlighting some of the finest artists, galleries, and art fairs out there. Indonesia has the richest art resources in Southeast Asia, with an abundant number of artists from modern art to contemporary art— whose pieces can now fetch to over $1 million in auction. To summarize the current art scene, we visited Sunaryo Soetono’s new stone garden, the Wot Batu, the renowned artist’s latest masterpiece, while Indieguerillas is an eccentric duo thathas created a new form of Javanese art.

This October will be the first year of ForbesLife Indonesia. Since the launch, the magazine has successfully published four quarterly issues. For this success, we'd like to thank our sources, advertisers and the readers.

Some say the third time is a charm and in this third issue we strive to deliver better contents faithful to the ForbesLife soul, the definitive destination for life’s finest indulgences. Boys will always be boys and cars will always be boy’s toys, so for this issue we present you several stories about some extravagant wheels.

The cover showcases Stanley Setia Atmadja and his classic cars, one of the finest collections in the country. We were given access to Stanley’s recently completed dream home in Sentul that houses some of the best cars in his collection, such as his Jaguar E-Type Series 1. This particular car is so rare that the world record price for the car at auction reached almost half a million dollars.

We also include a story of the greatest Paul Newman race car collection owned by Adam Carolla, a U.S. comedian, actor, filmmaker, bestselling author and pioneer podcaster. We highlight as well the reintroduction of the iconic Ford GT and a collection of watches that are connected to some of the finest automotive brands. We also test drive the BMW M3, a perfect sports sedan.

For the travel section we focus on Jakarta, which this year is celebrating its 488th birthday. For travelers seeking for the finest accommodations in Jakarta we compiled 10 of the most expensive suites available in hotels here, where you can find a bed that spans 12 feet, bulletproof glass-equipped windows, or furnishings made from 100 year old teak.

Meanwhile for the fashion spread we gathered three entrepreneurs from the Indonesia Young Entrepreneur Association (HIPMI), who are also friends, for an intimate photo shoot. While proud of this edition, we are really looking forward to the next one, where we will celebrate our first anniversary.

High Notes
Indonesia’s most successful living singer, Anggun, who at 40 is not slowing down—she is working on a new album and doing more to give back to the community. For the travel section we picked some luxurious destinations for spa and wellness in Bali, the island of the gods, including an authentic Balinese massage in Ubud to an anti-ageing facial in a beachfront resort. And as always we love to have examples of the experiences you can obtain with success, thus we have a story of entrepreneur David Tjiptobiantoro, who has an impressive hobby of racing with Ferraris and living his dream as a lover of all things fast, furious and Ferrari.
