Welcome to the latest issue of Technowize! We are thrilled to bring you a diverse array of features that showcase the best of the tech industry. Our cover story this month is a celebration of the success of tech CEOs, highlighting their achievements and the impact they have had on the industry. In “Technopolis,” we take a look at the latest tech trends that are set to shape the year 2023, from new advancements in AI to the growing importance of 5G. And in “Futurist,” we delve into the world of Japan’s robots, exploring how they are being used in various industries and the potential impact they may have on the future. Roughly 7% of Baby boomers, Gen Xers and Millennials told us that technological progress had limited their opportunities to do what they love and make money at the same time. But those perceptions are an exception. While the sentiment is slightly pessimistic among this particular crowd, Gen Xers and baby boomers are particularly excited about the opportunities that digitization across sectors is offering today. This issue will tell you that the plight of our civilization is nowhere near as grim as the opening pages of Douglas Adam’s “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” where aliens are determined to destroy our planet.

When developing new technology products, both startups and existing businesses are faced with a unique dilemma. The biggest tech company in 2007 was Microsoft Windows and it had not yet crossed a billion users. Today, over half of the world’s population is online. That’s 4 billion people around the world using the Internet. It’s just a matter of time before another 3 billion people are connected. But a lot of those folks live in the remotest locations on the planet. It’s hard to imagine how the tech companies are bringing Internet to places using paraphernalia like giant balloons.

There are over 1,500 billionaires in the world. Want to know the secrets of becoming a billionaire? The odds may not always be in your favor, and so it’s going to take a lot more than savvy investing, hustle, persistence and dedication. Becoming a billionaire is surely an impressive feat. However, there are some billionaires who’re more impressive than the rest.

With creative destruction in mind, we bring to you a list of the most influential young guns in tech who’ve shaped the world with technical change and entrepreneurial innovation. TECHNOWIZE 40 under 40 looks at disruptors, innovators, artists and rebels – all of whom have built something new and different, or simply disrupted the archaic way things were done. 

Netflix famously said it wanted to become HBO faster than HBO could become Netflix. Can online streaming TV prove to be a viable alternative to the traditional cable bundle? Can traditional cable TV prove it’s a cheaper improvement over Internet TV? The real question is which one will be the first to bring doom to the other.

When my father turned forty, we threw him a tongue-in-cheek funeral themed party, deck the living room with memorabilia. We laughed and laughed about it – forty back then was older than forty today. In today’s world, we’re always on the hunt of “someone young and hungry.” The connotation is lucid: if you aren’t young, you probably have very little to contribute. To be young and to make life really count is tougher than it sounds. To start with, one needs to get up from the slumber of stagnation. Productivity and creativity aside, one also need a strong commitment to shoring up to the next level. Young Entrepreneurs in this stage are supremely motivated not just for themselves, but for others. The below-40 crowd is more likely to do work that matters not just for themselves, but also future generations. For example, Mark Zuckerberg, 33, the richest tech billionaire under 40, has pledged to give away 99 percent of his earnings on behalf of The Giving Pledge. Airbnb co-founders – Joe Gebbia, Brian Chesky and Nathan Blecharczyk, have pledged to donate wealth to the U.S. Philanthropy project. In learning about these inspiring entrepreneurs, it’s easy to see why young billionaires have more innovation potential to do what really matters.


`If you could travel back in time three centuries, you’d encounter the last of Louis XIV’s wars for domination of the Europe, Benjamin Franklin publishing Poor Richard’s Almanack, and James Watt inventing the steam engine. This was a world during the Renaissance Age (14th to the 17th century) and a bridge between a period of European exploration and the age of machines. 
But what if we could look 300 years into the future? What would Earth look like in 2300? For starters, what will the weather be like? Will artificial intelligence have taken over the world? Will we have established the first human settlement on Mars?

The key thing about mortality is that its approach to a given question always seems, and on all levels, perfectly logical. To take our current example, the argument about AI posing an existential threat to humanity, in most meaningful respects is, quite compelling. If and when we develop human-level artificial intelligence, it’s only a matter of time until this AI gives rise to smart iterations of itself whose intelligence is far superior to our own as our intelligence is currently to that of animal species on the planet. Augmented Reality is most often described as the overlay of digital information on physical reality. From Google Glass to Microsoft’s HoloLens, our focus so far has been on amplifying pseudo-holography to alter our surroundings. What we will undoubtedly gain is intensified commodification of our desires, as the hybrid potential takes over the world of technology in the coming decade in a much deeper sense. Our lives will be arguably far more intricate; we will have far more choice than ever, saturated information, and the effects of this on our behavior and identity will be undeniably consequential. Our Cover Story, ‘The Age of Augmented Reality,’ goes beyond the potential applications of the immersive technology, with particular focus on healthcare, education and key services.

Consumers are worked up about privacy, and rightfully so. There is a sudden loss of freedom when privacy is taken away from us. We do nothing when seek privacy to wildly sing in the shower, write secret love letters, or keep private journals. We seek privacy to be free of the judgmental eyes of other people. Privacy is a basic human need...


In the1960s, American psychologist Harry Harlow conducted a series of experiments which involved separating infant rhesus monkeys from their mother’s just hours after birth. Each infant was given a choice between two dummy mothers. One was made of wire and held a milk bottle; another was covered in synthetic fur to resemble a real money but provided no food. Harlow assumed the monkeys would gravitate towards the mother surrogate which gave them a basic need: sustenance. Much to his surprise, the monkeys preferred their realistic looking cloth surrogate mother for comfort and security, and would only select the metal wire mother when they needed food. Harlow’s experiments fleshed out “form, function, feeling,” by American architect Louis Sullivan, the core of modern human design principles. Form and function have become universal concepts, but there’s a third, more subtle factor at play in design: feeling.

Voor Magzter was hij President van Dot Com Infoway (DCI) en Galatta Media.
