MEETING of two worlds

Self-taught artist Paramesh Paul’s canvases are a spiritualist’s delight. Fraught with mythology-inspired imagery, his vivid and vibrant paintings are a meeting of two worlds, where materiality echoes his metaphysical bond. Enter 2023, and the artist was ready to dole out another treat for art aficionados with a solo show of paintings, which took place at the Hirji Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, from March 27 to April 2, 2023. The noted contemporary artist draws inspiration from traditional Hindu iconography and symbols, such as Nandi bull, Lord Shiva, Ganges River, the ghats and sacred temples of the Varanasi city. In Paul’s works, these motifs are often reinterpreted in innovative ways, through the eyes of a devoted painter. In this exhibition, viewers can see his acrylic on canvas renditions of the Hindu iconography.
