Members of a second list of animal practitioners say the fi rst was not inclusive enough, and they ‘had little choice’
THE establishment of two separate registers for animal practitioners could create more confusion for owners despite the aim being the opposite, a physiotherapist has warned.
Animal therapy organisations have announced their intention to launch the Animal Health Professions Register (AHPR) by the end of next January, which will be nearly a year after the Register for Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners (RAMP).
H&H reported last year (news, 13 October) that the aim of RAMP was to provide a list of approved physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractors of “the standard that vets want to refer to”.
Its practitioners have trained to degree-level on people, taken post-graduate animal courses and completed 1,000 hours of handson practice, although it was due to be opened to other applications this year.
But those behind AHPR say RAMP excludes a large number of animal practitioners.
“Wouldn’t it be better just to have one register?” Fred Lawrence from the College of Animal Physiotherapy asked.
