A Facebook post led to a midnight rescue and an unexpected partnership.
TERI ALLEN
Forever Home

Teri Allen, founder of Terolyn Horse Rescue, and her new horse, Trinity.

Well, it was bound to happen. After many years of rescuing horses and finding them homes, I’ve finally fallen in love with and adopted one of my rescues.

My name is Teri Allen, founder of Terolyn Horse Rescue in Elizabeth, Colorado. Before starting the rescue, I was a horse trainer for more than three decades. During that time, I occasionally retrained at-risk horses and helped find them good homes. It felt good to help horses in need since these animals have added so much to my life.

In 2015, I was asked by Morgan Safenet—a non-profit dedicated to protecting the Morgan breed—to rescue a horse scheduled to go through a slaughter auction. The experience was eye-opening. It was the first time I’d been to such an auction and the horses’ fear and stress were agonizing to witness. It was especially difficult to see mares with foals at their sides. That auction changed my life. I was inspired to dedicate my life to helping horses, and shortly after, I founded Terolyn Horse Rescue. Since 2015, we’ve been able to rescue more than 140 equines.
