Technology has played a significant role in shaping the vertical transportation of today. Modern elevators and escalators are smarter and have undergone various design changes centred around safety, quality, and efficiency that allow adaptation to the building requirements of today. With cities growing taller and skyscrapers reaching new heights every day, the need for high-speed elevators is growing at the same pace.
HIGHER SPEEDS
Vaibhav Pitale, senior VP-New Installation Business, Schindler India, states that Schindler elevators 5500 and 7000 offer ride speeds as high as 3m/sec and 10m/sec respectively. “When talking about high-speed elevators, it’s not just the speed that creates the difference, but also the mechanism for acceleration and deceleration. Schindler VVVF Drive Technology plays a pivotal role in giving its high-speed elevators the right push needed for a smooth take-off and landing.”
The recommendation of elevator speed mainly depends on the height of the building. Increasing urbanisation requires reliable, secure and efficient mobility solutions. With digitisation, urban mobility becomes smart and predictable. These high-speed elevators ensure that passengers reach the destination floors quicker, without wasting much time in elevators. “Faster elevators mean transporting a maximum number of passengers in a given period of time. In commercial segments, elevator manufacturers perform a traffic calculation on the expected traffic to determine and recommend the elevator speeds and number of elevators,” explains Amit Gossain, MD, KONE India, adding that, like smart homes and smart cities, elevators are becoming more high-tech.
