Thought Paradigms: A Dialogue Through Art

“Have you heard about Daedalus?” asks artist TV Santhosh as we walk through artist Sanchayan Ghosh’s site-specific, labyrinthine installation titled Doosra. Santhosh goes on to tell us about the legendary architect of Greek mythology, who built the Labyrinth for Minos, King of Crete, in order to incarcerate in it the Minotaur, a creature half-human, half-bull. His achievement was to create a maze so incomprehensible to the perception that no creature could possibly escape it, but is fated to be imprisoned in his own contraption. “His design worked without fail even for himself,” says Santhosh.

In a strange way, both the Greek myth and Ghosh’s installation are metaphors of how we often get trapped in our creations. That Doosra reminded Santhosh of this myth was not just incidental.

Myths, metaphors and inferences aside, we met the two artists at the exhibition titled Games of Chance curated by Leandre D’Souza at Sunaparanta Goa Centre for the Arts. The conversation that unfolded meandered from art to cinema, politics to mythology, and to life in general. For those in the know, Santhosh and Ghosh need no introduction, for others, we introduce them to you through their works on display.
