&nbsp;We have known the client for a few years and our relationship has grown over few commercial projects that we designed for him. Narendra Babu is a rare client who invests entirely in building an ethical bond of trust with the architect and then steps away to give a free hand with the whole process of design and execution.This project challenged us with an unusual situation of a shrinking plot size. Repeated road widening initiatives by local authorities shaved off large parts of the plot area, leaving us with 30% less space within a year. This happened while the design was being carried out and we had to return to the boards to deal with changed context every few months. Thankfully, it did not deter the client or us from the challenge of achieving all the ambitions for the project.What the building lacked in terms of space on ground was offset by going tall. The living space has a ceiling height of over 30 feet and the dining area is 45 feet tall!<img src="http://magarticles.magzter.com/articles/889/235346/598830d4b3cc6/1502097581516.jpg"" owidth=685 oheight=1024" style="height:897px; width:600px" />The distinction between spaces such as the formal living, a private family room, dining etc. is created through floor levels and strategically located cabinetry. An under-lit pond wraps around the dining table and the spill of water from this trough cascades into lily pond at the entrance porch. Operable walls cordon off the kitchen, which can be opened out completely for entertaining.Each bedroom has walk-in closets, private balconies and complete privacy. The master bedroom is designed as a suite with its attached audio-visual room, study and a&nbsp;terrace that opens out to the best view from the villa. This bedroom has a view of the formal living area, in keeping with the client&rsquo;s need to see his guests from his suite.The effect of light streaming in through carefully articulated openings in the fa&ccedil;ade will create a magical effect inside. Constructed out of GRC with embedded steel framework, this moulded skin will serve the dual purpose of controlling the sun as well as providing security for the villa.
