HOLIDAY SKETCHING JOURNEYS
What is a holiday sketch? It is quick and spontaneous and is an impression of the people and the place. It is not meant to be a realistic representation. It is not a photograph and it is not a detailed drawing. Because it is done primarily ‘in situ’, it creates a very fresh, personal and unique visual response to the environment.
My journey into holiday sketching began many years ago. While in my teens, I lived in both Fiji and Penang, Malaysia. I had been painting and drawing for as long as I could remember, and while in Fiji also held a successful exhibition of oil paintings. Sketching became almost a way of life. I carried a small sketchbook with me everywhere, drawing houses, villages, people, flowers and almost anything that appealed to me. Here (to the left) is a fairly comprehensive list of materials which will assist in holiday sketching.
