Weeklong Income Tax Fair Motivates Youth To Become Taxpayers

The week-long Income Tax Fair 2017 held from November 1-7 drew huge response from the taxpayers and Income-tax related service seekers across the country with the introduction of Income tax cards for the first time in the history of the country, alongside the ‘Kar Bahadur Paribar’ honour to some 84 families.

According to NBR, this season’s Income Tax Fair witnessed the highest ever revenue collection of Tk 2,217 crore, 33 lakh, 14 thousand and 221, which is 4.12 percent or Tk 876,538,410 higher than the previous year when Tk 2,129 crore, 67 lakh, 75 thousand and 811 were realized in the Income Tax Fair 2016.

This season’s Fair also witnessed the highest number of visitors as some 3,35,487 taxpayers submitted their returns while some 11,69,569 general people took various Income Tax related services. On the other hand, some 1,94,598 Income tax payers submitted their returns during the Income Tax Fair last year with some 9,28,973 common people taking various Income Tax related services last year.

Within November 7, the National Board of Revenue held the event for four days in 56 upazilas, for two days in 34 upazilas and for one day in 71 upazilas.

In his message, President Abdul Hamid said the government has been organising income tax fair every year since 2010 to encourage the people to pay tax and simplify the process of income tax payment.

“NBR adds a new dimension not only to the tax culture but also the national culture through organising the income tax fair,” he added.

The President urged all concerned to come forward spontaneously to give income tax for expediting the activities of the country’s socioeconomic development.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the government introduced the income tax fair in 2010 aiming to make easy the process of paying income tax and create awareness among the people on income tax.
