First Drive Electric super mini gets a boost in range. We try new flagship.
THE Renault ZOE was already one of the most convincing electric cars on sale, thanks to its affordable list price, familiar driving dynamics and super mini dimensions. Now, Renault has added a new battery to boost its range to 250 miles.
Although that’s an official NEDC figure, Renault estimates real-world figures of around 180 miles in the summer and 120 miles in the winter. This is significantly more than the 100-odd miles you’d get from the smaller battery in favourable conditions.
The line-up still includes the lesser 22kWh battery in the entry-level car, but the new ZE 40 (with a 41kWh battery) adds peace of mind to buyers after more range.
Elsewhere, it gets the same electric motor as before, while the chassis, steering and suspension are unchanged. We tested the new Signature Nav trim, though, which has been introduced along with the new battery.
