Very boring times!
Classic Motorcycle Mechanics|February 2021
Progress on my latest Super Six had virtually ground to a halt halfway through November.
Very boring times!

Okay, so the last package of parts from Z-Power contained all the new bits I needed to complete the assembly of the frame, but I couldn’t get it up on its wheels until the rims had returned from being chrome plated.

I had received a call saying there would be a slight delay but I should get them back mid-December. I fitted the new indicators and rear mudguard, which are indistinguishable from the originals, and for me they are just perfect.

I managed to save the original wiring loom after replacing a few connectors and a few wires. I then fitted a temporary battery and checked all the lights worked. They all lit up as required and after a bit of fiddling with the adjuster screw the horn also sounded perfect. It’s always a nice feeling when the electrics work as the bike starts to feel alive.

Due to the latest lockdown restrictions I’ve been unable ask either of my sons, Sam or Stephen, to help lift the engine outside for its first proper test start. The Super Six engine is just too heavy to lift on my own and this time I may take it somewhere a bit more remote in the back of my pick-up truck to run it up to temperature. It’s just a bit too loud to run for any length of time at home on open headers.
