We take a look at how the 35th year has fared for TVS Racing
It speaks volumes of an Indian brand that adopts the philosophy of ‘Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday’ and that too for 35 years. As TVS Racing unveiled the Apache RR 310, it also completed 35 years of existence. The year 2017 has been a successful year for TVS Racing. They won 14 National Championships (11 in India and 3 in Sri Lanka). TVS Racing also won India’s major cross country Rally Raids such as the Desert Storm, Dakshin Dare and Raid de Himalaya. The team’s performance in internation rally events was commendable as well for TVS Racing took a 1-2 finish at the Pan Africa Rally held in Morocco.
Cross-country rallying
Not only did TVS Racing win all three Rally Raids of the year but their rider Abdul Wahid Tanveer also bagged himself the ‘Ticket to Dakar’ at the 2017 India Baja. Be it at the Dakshin Dare or the Raid-de-Himalaya, it was the TVS Racing boys who duked amongst themselves for the win. The Rally Raids began in the sand dunes of Rajasthan where R Nataraj won the Desert Storm from teammate Abdul. Nataraj replicated his form in the Dakshin Dare where he led from start to finish. It was the most complete performance from him as he was unchallenged for the entire duration of the rally. Abdul did manage to earn himself his first Raid title this year in the Xtreme Moto class, continuing TVS Racing’s long streak of wins at the highest rally in the world.

John Surtees an Appreciation
The first time I saw John Surtees was at Montlhery where he had come to demonstrate his old 1959 World Championship winning MV Agusta 500 and 350 machines. This was sometime in the mid-1990s and while I couldn’t get to speak with him then, his smooth clean and effortless riding style on the bumpy banking and through the notorious infield made me marvel at his imperious style.
