I am often asked how we come up with our expedition ideas and geographic goals: do we consult experts and spend hours poring over maps and research books? Many times, the answer is ‘yes’, but this Cape Town to Kathmandu expedition has a slightly different origin.

Having completed journeys of discovery to all 54 African countries and being the first exploration team in the world to discover the geographic centre of Africa and reach all seven extreme geographic points on the continent, we felt we needed a fresh, new adventure theme.

During our Capricorn expedition, we were lucky to explore four South American countries as well as Australia and Madagascar, but there are plenty of iconic places and geographic challenges around the world that we’d love to tackle.

And so, after a couple of weeks of R & R following our rather dangerous dash to Africa’s extreme east point in Somalia at the end of last year, we came up with the idea of a series of expeditions to be called Africa & Beyond, starting in Africa with a strong humanitarian and community focus, then going beyond to explore new countries and exciting new locations.

But where to first?
