Fuel prices aren’t as high as they were last year but drivers are still feeling the pressure. Instead of our usual fuel test, we thought this month we’d dedicate this space to divulge some fuel-saving tips.

As we’ve said numerous times before, fuel consumption is a huge factor when deciding which car to buy. Sales figures for smaller, more efficient models are going up but not everybody can afford to buy a new car.

There are a few things you can do to soften the blow, however. It has nothing to do those infamous trick devices, or even different kinds of fuel that claim to burn more efficiently. We’re talking about driving style and how much it affects a car’s fuel consumption.

We’ll use our Haval H6C as an example. We know for a fact that it can go more than 400km between refills, but that figure easily drops to 350km when you’re not in the mood to hang around. By simply adapting your driving style, you could save a chunk of money. According to Canada’s Natural Resources Department, a change in driving style could result in a 25% drop in fuel consumption and emissions.

There are various methods you can apply but for the purposes of this article, we’ll stick to the five methods that will save you the most.
