Mild Modifications Fulfil Mustang's Potential

One of these things is not like the other. This is the third Grabber Lime Mustang that’s appeared in these pages but while both cars you see here are V8 GTs, their specs are arguably as different from each other as MOTOR’s current GT is from the 2.3 High Performance that preceded it. Just to refresh your memory, MOTOR’s long-term GT is a six-speed manual with MagneRide dampers, but it’s lower, fatter twin here is something a bit different.

This isn’t the work of Ford. Instead it’s owned by friend of MOTOR Bernie Quinn, boss of engineering firm Premcar, which has created the Miami supercharged V8, Nissan N-Trek Warrior, and Holy Grail Falcon among many other things. This isn’t a Premcar thing, though, just a personal project to build his ideal everyday Mustang. Turns out Bernie has similar tastes to MOTOR. The most obvious change is the wheel and tyre package. The wheels are from the US-only Performance Pack 2 Mustang and measure 19 x 10.5-inch front and 19 x 11.0-inch rear, which allow the fitment of 305mm-wide Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres at both ends. Yes, both ends, which means the Bernie-Stang has an extra 50mm of tyre at the front and 30mm at the rear.
