I slipped the clutch a bit, and gave the accelerator a generous poke, which was enough to make the front wheels lose traction on the soft, crumbly surface. I shifted into second, and kept on accelerating, all the while muttering under my breath, ‘Need to get some opposite lock. Remember to use the handbrake.’ Then, at an arbitrary point which I deduced to be the best place to try and get the tail out (thanks to my years of drifting experience, not!), I yanked the steering to the left, pulled at the handbrake, and then steered in the opposite direction of the turn to catch the rear, and to honestly stop the car from yawing from side-to-side and careening into a ditch.
