At the end of a narrow, snaking cobblestoned driveway somewhere between Gurugram and nowhere, a garage door lifts open. I walk in and the first thing that comes to my mind is… nothing. It seems my brain can’t quite keep up with my feet, even as I walk towards the first of six Porsche 911s, sitting pretty on its classic Fuchs wheels. I pinch myself, hard.
A sore arm and ten minutes later, I still can’t quite form full sentences and I’ve got butterflies in my stomach. The best I can explain it is like when you come face-to-face with a long-held secret crush for the first time, and your legs turn to jelly and you don’t quite know what to say. This not-so-secret crush with the world’s best sportscar has been in the making since I was five. And in front of me are six of them.
Today is even more unbelievable because it isn’t just about coming face to face with my hero cars. It’s also about driving them – I was lucky enough to pop my 911 cherry with an unforgettable drive in the new-gen 992 at the Buddh International Circuit. But to have the keys to all of them and an entire day to stare at them, smell the ageing leather and oily exhausts, and then drive them is beyond surreal! I look over to Rohit to see how he’s doing and all we can manage between the two of us is a stream of barely decipherable words loosely translating to how weak-in-the-knees pretty the Porsches in front of us are.
