The Bugatti Bolide looks like the answer to a question car enthusiasts have been asking since pretty much the first Veyron came about. What would be the result if you put Bugatti’s iconic W16 engine in a pared-down track machine? And to no one’s surprise, the results are staggering.
Bugatti says that the Bolide will theoretically lap the Nordschleife in 5m 23.1s, more than 30s quicker than the all-electric and similarly track-focused VW ID R. The Bolide manages this with its completely new bodywork and heavily fettled-with powertrain. With its 1,850PS, the most powerful iteration yet of the W16 and only a 1,240kg dry weight, the Bolide’s power-to-weight ratio is an astonishing 1,491PS/ tonne! While the 0 to 100 kmph time of 2.17s isn’t unheard-of in this era of EV hypercars, genuinely astonishing is the expected 0 to 400kmph time of 12.08s, and the almost unbelievable 0 to 500kmph in 20.16s. Far from being a high-speed gimmick, the Bolide will do the 0-400-0 run in 24.64s.
