Triumph TR 5

Stuart decided to build this particular car as the Triumph TR5 is a very rare model.
Anthony Humphreys
Triumph TR 5

The vehicle was bought new by Mrs. MJ Faulds and was exported to Zambia. Mrs. Faulds sold the car to Mr. Gerhard Bester in Knysna in 1972, who owned it until 2014. Don Steenkamp purchased the vehicle in 2014 whilst it was in a partially stripped state.

The body and chassis were totally rust free. All parts were present and original, including the rare steering wheel. Mr. Steenkamp decided to do a chassis up complete restoration. He took a trip to England and visited various Triumph spare parts suppliers. A decision was made to deal with only one supplier – Revington TR, who are based in Somerset. This happened as a result of discussions with the owner, Neil Revington, who has an enormous wealth of experience gained over many decades working with different TR models. He has developed many essential upgrades to improve the TR. They imported a rear valance from him. The bodywork on the car is a bare metal restoration and full nut and bolt restoration as well. The body and paintwork were done by Spotless Knysna. The color of the car is Conifer Green and the paint type is Baslac. The color was chosen because it is the original factory color as per the Heritage Certificate.

The car has its original chassis and suspension but there were a few upgrades done as follows:

• Differential strengthening kit

• Rear telescopic damper conversion

• Front lower wishbone strengthening kit
