For the first time ever, an AMT is being offered in a compact SUV in both petrol and diesel engine configurations. We drive both to find out if this really is a match made in heaven.
It’s no secret that India is one of the fastest growing automotive markets in the world. That means every year a lot of new, and exciting, products are introduced to the market – which is certainly good news for enthusiasts. But, like everything else, this too has a downside. You see, India has managed to achieve this status purely on the basis of sales numbers – which, after all, is the endgame of every business.
Over the last year or so, an average of more than 2.5 lakh cars have been sold in India every month – which is quite an achievement. A good chunk of these numbers come from the metros and Tier II towns. Now, the problem lies in the fact that our roads aren’t being built with the same zeal with which cars are being sold. The consequence is but obvious – traffic! This has meant that buyers are now leaning towards automatic cars. And given our ever-increasing love for SUVs, a compact offering with a two-pedal setup is inevitable. Of course, where there’s demand, supply follows closely. Tata, then, is all set to introduce the Nexon with an AMT option for both petrol and diesel engines.
