The range-topping Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid is the second plug-in hybrid in the current line up and set its sights on the Tesla Model S P100D.
AHEAD OF ITS WORLD premiere at the 2017 Geneva Motor show in March, Porsche has announced its flagship Panamera model, the turbo s E-Hybrid. Having only recently launched the Panamera 4 e-hybrid, both plug-in hybrid models essentially share the same electric drive train that can be driven for up to 50km on a fully-charged 14kWh lithium-ion battery unit.
The increased pace of the turbo s e-hybrid comes by way of the 3,996cc V8 biturbo petrol engine that works in tandem with the electric unit to make a total system output of 680hp and 850Nm of torque.
Although Porsche officially quotes a top speed of 310km/h for this car, our colleagues from the evo UK Mothership have been driven around the Nardo technical Centre high speed test track in Southern Italy and report of reaching over 317km/h before Porsche test driver, Lars Kern (who set the Nurburgring Nordeschliefe record of 7 min 38 sec in the latest generation Panamera Turbo) started backing off the throttle. Reaching the magical 200mph (320km/h) mark in this car seems entirely possible.
