The playlist for our shoot with Janhvi Kapoor has been chosen by the actor herself. She keeps the mood upbeat with tracks ranging from the soundtrack of classic Bollywood films like Saathiya and Bombay to Post Malone and Swae Lee’s pop single Sunflower, and Punjabi hits such as Sakhiyaan. “Music makes me feel good about myself,” says the young actor as she changes from her shoot wardrobe of dramatic, couture lehengas and gowns by designers Shantanu and Nikhil into a short, summery floral dress and slippers.
The star of Dhadak has multiple projects in the works—a Zoya Akhtar-directed short film for Netflix, RoohiAfza alongside Rajkumar Rao, and the Karan Johar-produced Dostana 2. She took some time out of her schedule to talk to Brides Today about the everlasting love between her parents, Boney Kapoor and the late Sridevi, and the intimate wedding she imagines for herself in the temple town of Tirupati.
Do you believe in true love?
I do. Not in love at first sight maybe, but I do believe in a forever kind of love. Like what my parents had. My dad was obsessed with her [Sridevi] and they were really close to each other. Their love story was very complex, to say the least, but it’s dad’s favourite story. He wooed and pursued her for many years until she finally said yes. I’ve heard about how once, before they got married, she was shooting in Bangalore and he turned up at her hotel room in the morning to surprise her. She didn’t want other crew members to see him, so he finally ended up jumping out of the balcony, which really made her laugh. They did lots of cute things like that.
Did you ever talk to your mother about your wedding?
