IndiGo is the sixth in the world!

April 2022

It has been a remarkable climb to the Top-10 in the world. Few expected IndiGo to achieve the position it has, when it first ordered 100 aircraft at the Paris air show in the early part of this century. It has proved every detractor wrong and as it now hits the top 10 in the world; IndiGo only reaffirms its excellence as an airline.

IndiGo is the sixth in the world!

IndiGo's pole position in the Indian aviation market is well known. For years, the airline has been the benchmark both in South Asia and the larger world on how to best run an efficient low-cost operation in a price-sensitive, regulated cut-throat market. Apart from its on-time mantra, the airline has numerous firsts- the number of passengers carried, fleet size and its humongous network across the subcontinent.

No surprise therefore that it figures in the top 10 amongst world airlines. It has now emerged that the airline's success story makes it a dominant player not just within India but places it in the top 10 globally.

India's geographical and demographic size gives it several advantages for a thriving domestic market, although various operational challenges continue to hamper its growth. Still, IndiGo's success proves that the country has tremendous possibilities to up its game if the conditions improve in the future.

IndiGo is perched comfortably at the top, with no other carrier coming in even at a close second. While there's no immediate threat to the carrier, other airlines' current economic challenges and gradual rise are enough to keep it on its toes.
