Kerala Blasters is one of the teams which took the State’s name instead of a city’s in its title, which itself says a lot about the team as a brand.
For a football league that takes place in a country where football itself often takes a backseat to cricket, it is quite difficult to imagine the vociferous support of fans who are the lifeblood of the game. Some years ago, just as in Goa and Bengal, football dominated every other sport in Kerala where passion for football trumped cricket. There were times when the State used to have at least five of their players included in the Nation’s XI. And, just like any other sport, the golden era faded off in between. Clubs were shut down and football grounds began hosting cricket matches. However, with the unveiling of the Indian Super League (ISL) things have changed. The ISL has helped infuse enthusiasm into the people and made them passionate fans of football again.
“Kerala Blasters is one of the teams which took the State’s name instead of a city’s in its title, which itself says a lot about the team as a brand. If you look at Kerala and football per se, this is a place where football is everywhere - from the north to the south. It is more like One Kerala, One Football unlike many other places,” says Vinodini Issac, Managing Director, TeamOne Advertising Co. Pvt .Ltd.
