<div style="page-break-before:always; page-break-after:always"><p id="1">It is the only study that calls for participation by shortlisted women leaders to submit a detailed response to <i>Fortune India</i>&rsquo;s questions, giving them an opportunity to elaborate on their achievements. This 11th year of the ranking is particularly different as we added yet another layer of credibility and independence to the process by inviting a high-powered jury to deliberate on the submissions before arriving at the Top 50.</p><div style="page-break-before:always; page-break-after:always"><p id="3">The exercise starts early August with the editorial team preparing a list of more than 100 women leaders in business and economy who made a mark during the year. This involves scanning vast resources of information, noticing and capturing women achievers through the year, talking to industry leaders, domain experts, consultants and analysts for their suggestions and also past winners. This year&rsquo;s study spanned the period July 2020 to June 2021. But as an exception, we extended the period by a few months due to the pandemic, to include some of the stellar work done beyond July 2021 as well.</p><div style="page-break-before:always; page-break-after:always"><p id="2">The original list of over 100 women leaders is then narrowed down to 75 after extensive deliberations among <i>Fortune India</i> editors and sector specialists. The MPW team then prepares a detailed docket on each of the 75 leaders. We focus on five key parameters. These are size and importance of the business; health and direction of the business; her resume: longevity, past and present roles, and runway ahead; social and cultural influence at large and how in this period of crisis and uncertainty, she is using her influence in business and society at large for the better.</p><p id="3">It is at this stage that we write to each one of the 75 shortlisted leaders for their personal inputs on their journey during the year. Their responses are incorporated into the deck which is then presented before an independent jury to deliberate on the Top 50. We presented the deck of 75 potential winners to a power-packed jury that included Anjali Bansal, founder, Avaana Capital; Cyril Shroff, managing partner, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas; Harish Bhat, chief brand custodian, Tata Trusts; Piyush Pandey, chief creative officer, Ogilvy Worldwide &amp; executive chairman, Ogilvy India; Rajat Dhawan, managing partner, McKinsey; Rohini Nilekani, chairperson, Arghya; R.S. Sodhi, managing director, Amul, and Dr. Sanjiv Goenka, chairman, RPSanjiv Goenka Group.</p><div style="page-break-before:always; page-break-after:always"><p id="2">The jury rated each candidate on the five parameters on a scale of 0-10. The scores were tallied to create a master list. The jury then ranked the Top 50. The list of winners includes first generation entrepreneurs, tech leaders, marketing wizards, bankers and deal makers. The other members of the jury unanimously decided to add Anjali Bansal to the list of The 50 Most Powerful Women in Business, after Anjali recused herself.</p>
