Q: Considering Interfiliere Paris is the oldest and largest trade event for the global intimate apparel industry, what new elements have been added to the forthcoming July 2018 edition? And what is the thought process behind these moves?
Sustainability is a key point for Interfilière, not only for this July session, but we will go even deeper in this direction. As textile and clothing industry are the third most polluting industry behind oil and paper, as mass media and orgainzations regularly alert consumers on these issues, and as these subjects are particularly relevant for lingerie, swimwear and active wear products, as the body is directly in contact with these clothing items, we need to be a facilitator to the supply chain with these hot topics which are redesigning the future of our industry. It is essential for the brands to deeply rethink the way they produce lingerie, swimwear and active wear products using ecodesign. This will be possible by encouraging the use of more sustainable materials, which could also be more resistant, recyclable or biodegradable, without impacting other resources. Numerous fiber manufacturers already have realized the importance of these issues, and have dedicated their efforts to develop materials which address the environmental and social issues of the industry: like Esatman, Hyosung, Lenzing, Asahi…
The good news are that these solutions already exist at an industrial scale, or are already under development. And if they were not as performance driven as the conventional fibers a few years ago, the new generation of sustainable fibers have way more functionalities to feature.
This is why this year, Interfililère in partnership with the French Knitwear and Lingerie Federation has chosen to highlight these innovations, on the lingerie, swimwear and active wear markets.
