Vivek Malik, Preeti Kulkarni and Himali Patel look into how the fortunes of select funds have changed over the years and what experts foresee of the markets.
If you step back and look at the functioning of the mutual fund industry, you will realise that it is so dynamic that everyday there is some action and activity to look into. So in that sense, there is plenty to look out for. An aspect that is doing the rounds aggressively is about the digital route to mutual fund investing, which is also a route sans the distributor or advisor. “My main concern is to not move people online. My main concern is to move people from bank deposits and post office savings to mutual funds,” says Sunil Subramaniam, CEO, Sundaram AMC.
The challenge to get more investors put their money in mutual funds is changing with the increasing number of folios and investments in mutual funds in recent years. Investors have options to invest directly or through intermediaries who have also paved way an option to the investor to decide which route they wish to take. “We are the pioneers of the direct model. We have always maintained that a direct model— coupled with right education—is good for customer,” stresses Jimmy Patel, CEO, Quantum AMC. The low-cost model approach by Quantum has done wonders to investors who have believed in this philosophy of direct investing that came up a decade ago when Quantum commenced its operations.
