A storied manufacture that traces its lineage back to the 1775, Breguet has mastered the art of creating simple yet compelling objets d’art. The process of realizing each minimalist wonder is a journey of a thousand steps.
The custodian of many intricate traditions, the House of Breguet is one of few watch brands to have developed in-house workshops for engraving, anglage, enameling and guillochage. As invested in ground-breaking mechanical functions as he was in scintillating decorative arts, Abraham-Louis Breguet was a multitalented watchmaker who would influenced both the technical and aesthetic direction of the horological world. The brand’s namesake founder created many inspiring innovations, such as his gong springs for chiming watches and iconic open-tipped Breguet hands, which will never be forgotten.
Immortalizing Abraham-Louis’s modus operandum of transforming luxurious timepieces into canvases for rare decorative artforms, the brand trains most of its artisans internally, who are taught how to achieve Breguet’s high level of precision when executing lesser-known watch art techniques. One of the rarest decorative arts in the world that is taught in Breguet’s academy is anglage, a time-consuming technique that cannot be replicated by machine. This age-old technique uses highly accurate filing to create chamfers and warrants a meticulous polishing process afterward.
