The last 10 years were a whirlwind of transformation and change in our lives, a major part of which was due to the technological advancement in the telecom industry. With all that we have learned and gained, we are opening the doors to an entirely new world, where times will fly at the speed of 5G.
Over this period, technology has significantly evolved from data to virtualization to now AI and ML. This new era that had seemed so far and yet now so close will change meanings to everything that we know as we prepare for the fourth digital revolution or the Industry 4.0. The concepts of cloud, virtualization, 5G, edge computing, AI/ ML that have been floating around for some time will now have a stronger current leading to enhanced lifestyles, productivity, sustained growth and contributing to an economic boom.
And at the core of this is the opportunity for the CSPs to play a pivotal role by providing not only ubiquitous and seamless connectivity but also value-added services. They are transitioning their networks to a virtualized, container and microservices-based with a cloud-native architecture. This new architecture will also enable CSPs to take advantage of network slicing and low latency to more effectively support use cases in areas such as automated transportation, video analytics, RPA, AR/VR solutions, advanced healthcare applications and cloud-based gaming.
Evolution has always been an imperative in this industry and 2019 in India encouraged the telecom businesses to reinvent their services. With 2020 the industry will be embarking on a digital journey from a digital transformation. The flaming trends for the coming year would see a transition to 5G, greater dialogue about AI, network optimisation, IoT, cloud computing, cyber-security, premium content delivery and cross-industry alliances.
