Many think that Amitabh Bachchan has found the fountain of eternity but his passion towards the art is the answer. The ace performer talks to Viraj Sawant about all that has changed in the recent past and how he has embraced it.
Not just surviving but thriving for close to five decades in the film industry isn’t a piece of cake. Where careers last up to just a film or sometimes a mere controversy, he has battled the odds and emerged as the sole survivor from his generation.
In this journey, there isn’t anything that Mr Bachchan hasn’t tried his hand at, whether romance, comedy, action, thriller and drama. There is barely any medium which he hasn’t worked on - television, radio and films have all been conquered. It’s his zeal for more knowledge that gets him going. Even at 70, he loves to experiment and isn’t afraid to fail. He discusses this newness and talks about the metamorphosis of filmmaking, acting and his parallel life on the internet.
Directors of the new age
This generation is a lot more conscious about what’s happening in the world around. They know that the audience has a very short attention span. So they make sure to hold the attention of the audience. I don’t think they have a problem with funding and all. Funding is almost irrelevant today. Unlike in our times when we had to go and borrow money from people, make a film. Then go and show that product to that financier and hope to get some more money...Which is why during my time we used to work on two to three films in a day. Technically they are a lot more conscious. They are also concentrating on different kinds of stories. The amount of talent is immense and I have so much admiration for their talent. I just can’t find mistakes in the work they do. They know what they want and it’s such a joy working with them. They are very relaxed and natural in front of the camera. For anyone, it’s very difficult to not do anything in front of the camera.
