Lisa: ‘Finding Love Helped Me Beat Depression'

When Lisa Snowdon posted a naked selfie of herself earlier this month, she was shocked at the attention it received – even making national news.

She admits she was nervous about uploading the snap and consulted fiancé George Smart before sharing it with her 200K Instagram followers. “I sent it to him and said, ‘Is this too much?’ He said, ‘No, it’s great. Post it!’” she laughs.

“I was a bit nervous about it. I was naked, yes – but I had a hat on! I got a lot of likes, but I didn’t do it for that – I did it for me, because I liked the picture. I’m 46, and some days I feel sexy and some days I don’t, but I do feel more confident than ever, because at this age I’ve found acceptance, which is the most important thing.”

Lisa famously dated Hollywood legend George Clooney in the mid-noughties, but candidly admits that a string of what she describes as “terrible” relationships, some abusive – along with her parents’ marriage breaking down when she was in her teens – impacted on her mental wellbeing. She reveals meeting fiancé George, 39, was a turning point, as was a combination of CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), antidepressants and exercise, which warded off the bleakness of her depression.
