Diana Penty Reveals Why She Is Such A Reclusive Actor

Breaking stereotypes is not easy and yet that’s what Diana Penty excels in. This half-Parsi half-Christian girl has made a habit of portraying Punjabi girls with consummate ease. She looks like a super model but she brings an emotional depth that’s far from the frivolity you’d expect from a pretty face. There’s oodles of heart and a generous helping of honesty in this talented young actor. Her last film, Happy Bhag Jayegi turned out to be one of the year’s big surprises. A pattern which had happened with her first film Cocktail too. To say that Diana Penty is full surprises would be stating the obvious. Quietly confident and genuinely beautiful, Diana Penty is just about perfect...

You must be happy with the positive feedback that Happy Bhag Jayegi received…

Yes! More so, when I heard the script, I said, ‘Wow, this is a crazy chick, who runs away from her wedding and ends up in an unknown place. It’s a situational comedy of errors. Also, Happy, my character, is totally the other extreme of Meera (her character in Cocktail), who’s reticent.

What did you discover about yourself while playing this character?

I discovered that I could do things out of my comfort zone. Earlier, I had thought that I would stick to the same kind of roles – like Meera in Cocktail – as that came naturally to me. But after two years I thought why should I play the same thing? If something is challenging, exciting or new… then why not? And you know how a Scorpio is. If you challenge them then they will do it all the more. So don’t ever challenge me because I am a Scorpion.

Who are you more like in real life, Cocktail’s Meera or Happy?
