You can take the actor out of the race, but can you ever take the race out of the actor? Tabu is focussed even though ambition is not her top driver. Give her the option and she’ll happily relegate herself to domesticity but that’s not what’s going to happen. Twenty years into the business and her career is only getting busier and better. Haider, Drishyam and even a damp squib like Fitoor sails through solely on her talent. When you find her name on the credit list of a movie, expectations automatically shoot up. And you know, regardless of the fate or quality of cinema on offer, Tabu will be the best thing on the big screen. Despite lacking in teething passion to succeed, Tabu is motivated by pursuit of excellence. When she works, she works for posterity because growing up in the industry taught her that numbers and results are not an actor’s priority. Actors are merely characters in a movie and that’s her mantra to succeed. Once the camera switches on, Tabu zooms ahead at breakneck speed, leaving everyone in a trail of dust. Once the camera switches off, she becomes the laidback, outspoken and perennially jovial person who’s just as candid as her performances. Tabu, happy, confident and raring to go...
