Her recently released autobiography may lift the lid on the end of her engagement to Eddie Boxshall, but Denise Van Outen’s A Bit Of Me: From Basildon To Broadway And Back reveals so much more than that.
The 47-year-old actress and presenter spills the beans on everything, from her tumultuous relationship with Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay to being asked out by Friends actor Matthew Perry.
Opening up about her rocky romance with former fiancé Jay, who she dated from 1998 to 2001, Denise details their first meeting – and their outrageous sex life. When her knickers went missing after spending her second date with the musician at his 11-bedroom Buckinghamshire mansion, she discovered his pet Alsatian, Luga, eating them.
“He had my knickers in his mouth,” writes Denise. “There he was, snuffling and chewing away at them at the top of the landing. It culminated with the dog and me in a tug of war on the landing, with me pulling on one end of my knickers, and him snarling and pulling at the other. I somehow managed to get them back in the end, but every time I went to Jay’s house after that, Luga always came straight over to me and jammed his nose in my crotch.”
Denise didn’t only catch the musician’s eye, but that of a Hollywood star, too. After seeing her on TV, Matthew Perry got her number from her agent and asked her out over voicemail – which she accidentally played in front of Jay. She writes that the actor said, “I think you’re gorgeous, and I’d love to take you out on a date.”
Although she didn’t take Matthew up on his offer, she admits it did keep Jay “on his toes”.
